I caught up with a friend on the weekend for a coffee (no, she didn’t want to walk). After we had exchanged greetings and were waiting for our table ‘Tania’ apologised madly for putting on so much weight. I hadn’t seen her for quite a while and she was right, she had gained quite a bit of body fat. “It’s my new partners fault” she was protesting! It appears Tania has put on the ‘love kilos’.

“He hates exercising and loves food” said my distraught friend. She was terribly disappointed in herself for letting her healthy eating and fitness decline and searching for any excuse. While I’m not the exercise and food police if my friend is upset I will try and see where the problem lies. It seems some unhealthy snacks and take away food has crept into her lifestyle as her and her new partner like to cuddle up and watch movies on these cold winter nights.

It is fine to love food, I am quite a fan myself, but choice is so important. Choosing what you eat is your own personal responsibility and can’t be blamed on anyone else. The same goes for exercise. Try and squeeze it into your day no matter what. I suggested to Tania to jump off the couch and do a few push ups and squats in the middle of those ‘Rom Coms’ she has been watching with her new partner, hey, he just might join in!
